Have a laugh on me

I laugh in the face of fear

I was trawling back through some old photos to find something and came across this beauty!

It was my hen’s night and it was hilarious. I had the limo, sash, and lots of good girlfriends who made sure I had a night to remember – not that I did – remember it that is.

I think as one of my hen's night challenges I had to serenade a man, I hope that is what I'm doing

I think as one of my hen’s night challenges I had to serenade a man, I hope that is what I’m doing.

I suppose I don’t have that much shame and will do pretty much anything I’m asked to – now don’t go getting any ideas – unless you want to pay for me to jump out of a plane in a gorilla suit because I’ll definitely do that.

This beauty also came to light – would you be surprised to learn this is not my real hair – I swear.

I love the mullet

I love the mullet

I gotta say I’m thankful that I have the balls to do and say pretty much what I think.

Not to the point to where I’m rude or offensive but that if I don’t know something I have no qualms at all about asking – even if it makes me look like a wally or slightly simple.

I’m also thankful that my friends and family know and accept this about me!

Do you let fear of being judged hold you back from asking things or speaking your mind?

Getting a Sunshine Award has made me McMassively happy – it has also made me reveal some pretty personal shit

Last week I got a McMassive shock when I was awarded a Sunshine Award by the funky Carmen @ Musing ‘n mayhem.

To say I was surprised and humbled is to put it mildly, especially since I’m relatively new to this blogging world.

But maybe there is room for someone such as me in the blogging world after all – and that’s nice to know 🙂

Sunshine-Award1

Just in case you aren’t familiar with the Sunshine Award, it is given to bloggers by other bloggers.

Recipients of the award are: “Bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogsphere”.

The way the award works is this you have to thank the person who gave you the award and link back to them and then answer questions about yourself.

Then select 10 of your favourite bloggers, link their blogs to your post and let them know they have been awarded the Sunshine Award!

So I’ll start with the questions:

1. Favourite time of the Year?

In Queensland it’s got to be autumn, the humidity goes but it’s still warm enough to wear singlets and shorts.

2. Favourite festive movie?

Love Actually and The Sound of Music – growing up in NZ it used to be aired around Christmas time and I especially adore the goat song – Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo!!
I’m also a sucker for the spunky Caption von Trapp – smokin’ hot.

3. What is your passion?

It used to be making sure the truth was written, known and read, but as I’ve moved away from the newsroom my passion is more about trying to keep an open mind and learning more about the world and people who live in.

I am also passionate about protecting my family – especially my children.

4. Favourite colour?

Red baby!

5. Favourite time of the day?

Dusk, when the sun crawls behind the mountains and I know it’s not long until my angels will be fast asleep and I can relax.

6. Favourite flower?

The Periwinkle – my mum used to grow it and if you twist it a small yellow/orange stem comes out of it and as kids we used to pretend they were fairy’s toothbrushes!!
You must start growing it Rhianna @ A Parenting Life

7. Favourite non-alcoholic beverage?

Sorry I don’t understand the question.

38976_457743655831_4016480_n

8. Favourite physical activity?

The Horizontal Mambo, but if I can’t have that then something like kayaking or canoeing where I can take gorgeous views while I get active.

Plus my boobs are too humungous (not really in a good way) for me to enjoy running of any sort, unless it’s around the bedroom 😉

Me on my honeymoon in Vanuatu - kayaking (and wondering why I married my husband who was behind me getting the shits because we couldn't paddle in unison!

Me on my honeymoon in Vanuatu – kayaking (and wondering why I married my husband who was behind me getting the shits because we couldn’t paddle in unison!

9. Favourite vacation?

Anything near the beach or water, but then again I also love being in cold places so I can snuggle by an open fire, not such a great thing to do with young kids.

10. What piece of advice would you give a 20-year-old you?

Be smart with your heart and while you should love unreservedly – be wary of investing or caring too much for those who don’t deserve it.
Also set up an automatic payment of $20 a week, you won’t miss it and will come in handy in 15 years time!

——————

I found it hard to pick just 10 of my favourites because my tastes are so varied.

But if there is one thing that ties most of these bloggers together is that I get a giggle from them and a ‘phew – I’m not the only one like this’ feeling when I read their posts.

I haven’t awarded ‘BIG’ bloggers because it goes without saying they inspire me to blog, hence why I follow them every week with baited breathe!

In alphabetical order (not) – here is my list, and please don’t hate me or be offended if you’re not on it, I promise I still love you and read your blogs.

I must confess my first ever blog post wasn’t as hot as Hugh

While I do have a lot to get off my chest this week, I’m going to share my first ever blog post as suggested by Kirsty @ My Home Truths for I Must Confess.

Because I didn’t appreciate the value of photos my 1st post had none (BORING), so here is one just for the hell of it – it’s of my favourite spunknuts and gentleman!

Please enjoy Hugh Jackman – then my inaugural blog post 🙂

Here is it:

To paraphrase a friend’s website – this blog ain’t gonna be pretty but it’s gonna be true!

Wow, this is like having to make a maiden speech in front of hundreds of people, except I have no audience, I’m not holding in my sticky-out stomach, and my hair looks like it’s been out the car window for too long.

Shucks so this is really just a place for me to record some precious moments of my life. It’s not one of those precious ”I love being a mum so much blog” – it might get ugly and offensive.

To paraphrase a friend’s website – this blog ain’t gonna be pretty but it’s gonna be true!

So strap yourself in for some amusing, honest, blunt, rude, obnoxious, insensitive anecdotes on my life as an slightly overweight, working, honest, sensitive (at times) mother of three and wife.

So that was it!!! Do you feel totally underwhelmed – here is my third one called Spaghetti – still with no pic 😦 !

If you’d walk past my house or been unlucky enough to visit at 5.30 this evening you would have been wondering how I was allowed to procreate!

For starters we were watching Christmas DVD’s so loud the neighbour’s dogs were trying to join in. Next of all, I had just asked No.1 to find No.3 in case he had found the lollipop he had dropped outside yesterday, and yes he had discovered it in the dirt and was making short work of it.

No.2 was running around without pants shouting wee, wee, no poo poo and trying to body slam No.3 any chance he could.

With husband stuck in traffic, we sat down to eat messy Spaghetti, with Wiggles Christmas still playing (kill me) but at least there was some peace. I was just about to take a HUGE gulp of medicinal compound (wine) when said husband arrived, crap.

Just as my hard working, easy going, tired husband arrives home, No.3 decides the dinner on his plate felt lonely, so he threw it down on the ground to play with its friends, on my recently mopped floor.

While no-one was looking I did the most sensible thing someone in my position would do, take a BIG sip, okay it was a gulp!

Who knew that dinners, in fact every meal, would be such a horrific experience with children. I thought they just ate what we ate, did what we did, and smiled nicely and said nothing.

But unfortunately times have changed and we can no longer scare our kids to be quiet like many of our parents did!!!

Not that I would want to (insert sarcastic face), in fact I love being asked to read No.1’s recently received Santa mail letter from Westfield 7 times (yawn). But it’s true, back in the days kids were seen and not heard.

I don’t agree with that necessarily, but that is a subject for another day. Gulp, night night!

So there we have it – don’t worry I’ve got better and have made my posts more aesthetically pleasing – see image below – another hottie photo because I now despise just posting blocks of text 🙂

Because I have no shame I’m flashing – back in time that is!

I LOVE the idea of flashing back in time to find out more about follow bloggers.

As a teenager I went to many school/uni balls and here’s the evidence.

I gotta say at the time I thought I looked shit hot in some of these dresses.

Although I do look like a hooker and a bride in two of these photos – please have a laugh on me!

This is probably my least cringe worthy photo - but I borrowed my sister's dress which is probably way.

What a shocker - even the shocking red lippie, and I purposely didn't show you the very high cut split at the front of this racy number

Why sending a child to school is hard for a control freak!

My ‘baby’ is starting school on Tuesday and I’m a little freaked but a little pumped.

She is 100 per cent pumped and not even a fraction bit freaked – and that makes me so happy.

My gorgeous girl at about 4 months.

Here at just 18 months

Here at just 18 months

This week I devoted two full days to spend just with her (no little ‘bothers’ around to cramp her style) and she wanted to do the theme parks.

So we did – THEM ALL!!!!!!!

I gotta tell you I’m a tad over them now, the queues, the sun, the noise, the expensive ice creams ($4) – give me the beach any day.

Eat your heart out Pammy!

I love these guys, especially the penguins

But she had a ball and was finally allowed to get her hair braided, she has been asking me about this for months and I’ve always said no.

Well today she got her wish and she was so happy.

I wonder if she’ll be allowed to have it at school – public? (anyone know?)

She sat patiently for the 10/15 minutes it took.

After I took this I got told to stop taking photos, and she's right, sometimes it's best to just enjoy the moment

I don’t think the reality of school has fully dawned upon me yet.

I won’t have my big girl around to help me, or spontaneously ask for ‘a lift up cuddle’ and I won’t get to hear her cute voice during the day!

As for my fears about school, like most, they are that she won’t make friends, she’ll feel scared, lonely and overwhelmed.

But I just hope I’ve done enough to help her navigate her way through it all confidently.

Me with my favourite girl in the whole wide world!

Me with my favourite girl in the whole wide world!

You know what though I don’t think I have too much too worry about, she is pretty confident, clever and gutsy.

There’s an awesome adventure playground quite high up at Sea World and she had no fear going up and running across high rope bridges.

I know many of my friends wouldn’t dare do what she did – she must get her love of adrenalin and non-fear of heights from me!

She has such a brave, caring and gorgeous soul.

This is not for the faint hearted!

This is not for the faint hearted!

And I know I’ll cry on the day, but there is no way I will cry in front of her – I will be cheery, excited and supportive.

I will also have the Husband there for moral support and he’s not a crier which is helpful, but also bloody annoying.

But that’s not to say I won’t bawl my eyes out in the car and then wonder all day how she is, if she could open her lunch, find the toilets, or had to sit by herself at lunch time 😦

I get a lump in my throat thinking about it.

Learning to let go is something I’m not great at anyway, but to have to let go of a part of me, well it’s gonna be tough!

Super excited in her school uniform!!

Wish me luck peeps and to all those in similar situations I do the same for you.

For those old hags (hands) out there what is the one thing I should NOT forget to tell my daughter about school.
