Have a laugh on me

We're not all in the same boat, some of us struggle to even get in the boat!

A snapshot of what I did last week – in about 30 words!

WOWSERS – what a busy week since we last met IBOT’ers!

I’ve got so much to say but I’m still suffering from my Saturday night cocktail party (yep I’m a light weight) and am ridiculously tired and possibly have a three-day hangover 😦

As a journo I know how to summarise things and have been taught how to ‘hook’ a reader in about 30 words.

So here is a snapshot (followed by pic) of some newsworthy things that have happened to me in the past week.

(I’m writing them as if they were intros for a newspaper).

A FIRST-TIME school mum was devastated to find nits in her child’s hair and has warned other parents to be vigilant in keeping the “creepy critters” at bay or else she’ll go all gangsta on them.

I was SOOO paranoid that I did my own hair - TWICE - despite the fact the hairdresser told me I was in the clear!

A MOTHER-of-three turned a blind eye when her school-aged daughter and pre-school son got married in front of friends over the weekend.

DESPITE being warned of the dangers of excessive drinking, a woman allegedly drank cocktails for more than seven hours before falling asleep at 2.30am after consuming an entire jug of unconfirmed substances and dancing in her pyjamas to bad 70s music.

AUTHORITIES were shocked it took at least twenty minutes for the mother of these children to realise they were asking for real money to give away pretend ice-cream – initial reports suggest she might have been slightly hungover from the night before.

PARENTS across the country have been warned to be aware of the dangers of toddlers standing on and jumping off toys – the mum of this boy admitted that she was ‘busy blogging cooking’ when the incident occurred.

What was the high and/or low point of your week?

I'm a mum to three, write from home and I rarely cook, craft or clean but admire those who do. I try to live by the mantra that there's no point in worrying about something that might not happen! Be warned this is not a fluffy, sweet mummy blog, rather a place where you can cringe, laugh and be shocked at my brutally honest take on my life.

  1. Congratulations on getting a post up… My intention was to get one into IBOT as well today but I fell asleep! LOVE your posts – they always put a smile on my face! xx

  2. Brilliant! You can take the lady out of the news room but you can’t take the news room out of the lady. You definitely had me hooked 😉

  3. I want to read this newspaper thank you. 🙂 What a great post. How is Mr ‘Ouch’ doing? And how is your head? Lol. You and I can sit in the lightweight corner bud. 1.2 drinks and I’m gone. Of that’s why I don’t drink. I remember now. Lol

  4. Great post! You always manage to bring a smile to my face, and I can’t believe the ouch photo! That is impressive. Have a great week. X.

Btw, I am also a lightweight drunk, but it saves money that’s for sure 😉

  5. Love it!!!! The week sounded fun filled, a wedding, getting pissed until the wee hours, fake ice cream sales and an egg on your son’s head! The highs or lows of my week can’t compete with any of that. 🙂 LOL

  6. Poor bubbas head 😦 Sounds like you’ve had a busy week! Hope the head (yours and his) has recovered well 🙂

  7. look at that egg! my middle boy (2 yrs) is accident prone, to put it nicely. He has 2 days at daycare and its been a good day if i get greeted with the good news of “only 1 accident form to sign today” by his carers. Good on you for having a big night, looks and sounds like you had fun and thats what its all about!

    • I hear you Megan when I tell them that he’s had another fender bender they just nod and sign. The big night was great – a shame it took me so long to recover. Totally worth it thought. Thanks for visit and comment – Em x

  8. HAHA! Excellent work trusty reporter. The low point is keeping two sick kids home from daycare today with croupy coughs AGAIN. Is it ok if I put Peppa Pig on ALL DAY? Please say yes…

    • Bloody Peppa Pig, what haven’t they made a movie of it yet – 8 minutes just doesn’t cut it right?! I hope they are on the mind Sarah and you’re not totally insane – well more insane than you already are 😉 xxx Em

  9. Hook central!! It worked for me, bahahaha at the early marriage 🙂

  10. Em, I’ll read your newspaper any day!
Two sore heads in one house is not a good thing, hope you’re both feeling better x

    • If only newspapers weren’t a dying breed – but I think I have found a new and easy way to blog. Thanks Lisa, I’m finally good but No.3 a little off still, but from a cold not his head egg. ::

  11. I love it! Scandal and intrigue plus a good dose of tut-tutting at someone else’s ‘failures’ – you really are an experienced journalist! It all sounds rather similar to my week long hangover a couple of weeks ago. I hope that egg on the forehead is all better. My girls are always marrying each other – any excuse for dress ups!

  12. A light weight!?!? I’d be in hospital after drinking that much. Possibly a coffin. Don’t know how you got through the next day.

  13. Love the headline approach! Ashleigh tries to charge me for the bark at the playground. Kids are surprisingly canny when it comes to getting money!

  14. Hahaha! Loved this post!

  15. Oh, I sympathise with your lice paranoia. My boys did successfully transfer the nasty little critters to me once. Did I mention that my hair reaches my lower back? Did I also mention that it took two fucking hours to comb those little bastards out?
Keen to hear more dispatches from the “Have a laugh on me” newsroom 😉

    • OH MAN – seriously it has been driving me up the wall!!! I know I haven’t got it, but it’s been so hard not to think I have. I’ve done another swoop and check today and everyone is A OKAY. TWO HOURS of combing – what a nightmare. I just wish mums knew about it, but teachers can’t say anything to particular parents otherwise they’d get in trouble.
Love your visit and I’m thinking of making the newsroom thing a weekly occurrence, thanks for the idea xxx

  16. I -much- prefer this news reel to the real ones! Hope next week gives you a break!

  17. Glad the cocktail party was such a success, sorry to hear it was so much to recover from. Hope you are feeling better now. Looks like a pretty action packed week.

Fairy wishes and butterfly kisses lovely

  18. Ha – you had me at Wowsers!
    Popped over from IBOT

    • Thanks Rhian – you are only the second person I’ve ever known with this awesome name. I went to boarding school with my Rhi and we now live just minutes apart in a different country we grew up in. Thanks for visit and comment 🙂

  19. lol! I love this post! 😀 I think this week, the entire week was my lowest point. Did some recharge body and soul and now I am back. Starting with IBOT and moving forward 🙂

    • Glad to hear you are back – I know what it’s like to have a low week, in fact the whole of last year was a bit of a shitter. Here’s to a great week for us both. Love your visit and comment! Em x

  20. I’m the same as Rina – my whole week last week was a low point. Ready for a new start and a better week. And that poor little head!

    • On Becky – sorry to hear that – fingers crossed that with just a few more days til the weekend things are looking better?! If not there’s always chocolate, coffee, booze and Revenge to take your mind off it. Hugs 🙂 xx

  21. With out doubt you bring a smile to my face with every post. Thank you xx
Hope the little fella is doing ok

  22. This is brilliant! I read it in my Sandra Sully voice… X

  23. LOL … high point was being at my BFFs wedding in NZ on Saturday. Low point – still feeling exhausted! But I sound really lame if I whinge about being jet lagged – it’s only NZ for pete’s sake!!!!

  24. One of my kids came home with nits last week and I nearly cried! I have a hair appointment this friday, and I will not suffer the embarrassment of having head lice again!!!

    • I haven’t stopped itching and scratching since last week – even now I am scratching the wee hairs on my knuckles as I type – ARGHHH. In seriousness though now, I wish head lice was spoken about more and not seen as embarrassing (no offence) then all those kids who have it, and pass it on, would get treated by their parents, most of whom are totally unaware their kids have it 🙂 xx Thanks for visit Jess

  25. Fantastic- now there’s some headlines worth reading! Poor boy, so hard when you need to COOK so often in the week. Highlight of my week is in my current post about bringing our new furbaby boy home! We’ve had him not much longer than 30 hours now and I already know I’d be utterly devastated if anything happened to him.

  26. Oh what a nasty egg, poor bubba. Nits are the worst – my niece got them a few months ago and I did my hair so many times even though there were none in our house because I couldn’t stop itching at the thought!

  27. Hahahaha, you had me well and truly hooked, Em 🙂
I better go get some cooking err I mean blogging done 😛

  28. You are bloody hilarious!!! Are you sure those cocktails had “unconfirmed substances”? And honey, there’s no such thing as bad 70’s music 😉

  29. Hahahahaha! You’re absolutely hilarious! I wish we had more first paragraph like this in the newspaper!

  30. I love this! I had a hangover Sunday so we can be friends. Though I did try and pretend that I didn’t!

  31. Haha!
With my intolerances, I often have 3 day hangovers (it has nothing to do with the 7 hours of driving, just what you are consuming:) ).
So next time try to stick to things like Gin or Vodka. Yes, the old G&T may not be as glamorous as the cocktail, but the next day is so much better.
If this cannot be done – go wild and make sure the 3 day hangover is worth it 🙂
    Becc @ Take Charge Now

    • I completely agree and that’s why I only consumed white spirits and fruit but Becc I think it had more to do with the quantity, not getting to bed til 2.30! I didn’t even have a headache I just felt slow, my poor liver processing more than it’s used to xx

  32. Clever idea , smart kids , poor baby !
