Have a laugh on me

We're not all in the same boat, some of us struggle to even get in the boat!

Have you tried having a Fug All Friday recently?

Oh how I miss being lazy!

Kids are just such high maintenance – “I want lunch”, “wipe my bum”, “unhook me from the washing line”, “let me in the house – it’s raining”.

Today my boys asked for macaroni for lunch, well the one that could speak did.

He was quite upset when I gave him a bowl of pasta, without cheese sauce.

I tried to explain it was Fug All Friday – he didn’t get it – strange that.

This is what happens when you don't give your children attention, they start WWF-ing each other!

I wish someone would invent a kids feeding system like they have for cats, where they tap a container and food rolls out the bottom.

Even a toddler-sized cat flap would be handy – especially one with a lock 😉

I find Fridays extremely annoying after a long week, I just want to do diddly squat but kids make that impossible.

A few months ago I wrote about my F*%K All Friday policy – where I do nothing all day (it explains the rules and ’tis quite amusing).

It’s kinda hard to let go – but with practise you too can transform your Friday into a day of sloth.

Start with letting the kids do whatever they want!

Riding a roll of wrapping paper as a horse

This frees you up to do useless shit such as playing on your phone, blogging, and taking lots of selfies with your kids.

Usually they’re keen to oblige as are high on the bucket loads of sugar you gave them to keep them away from you for five minutes.

Look at his eyes - he's totally thinking - "I'm going to snap her neck in half unless she feeds me more JUICE!"

Geez, what a stunning photo that is of me!

If you’ve succeeded in hiding from the ferals wee darlings for 10 minutes (usually by locking yourself in the toilet) – use this time wisely.

Whatever you do don’t waste it by doing the dishes, the washing or removing porridge stuck to your child’s forehead.

Try your hardest to ignore any thoughts of what to cook for dinner and DO NOT pick up any toys.

Totally going to leave this here all day and tell the husband I had SUCH a frantic day I hadn't got around to it yet

A big thanks for the life Jess - I used it to smash level 100!

I totally photo bombed my son during his sleep and lay their for 40 minutes!

I figure that surely one day a week I can do fug all without feeling guilty.

And realistically it’s not as though I’ve done nothing all day.

This is what I’ve done:

1. Fed, dressed and wiped three kids’ bums all before 8am.
2. WALKED to school, at one stage all three were on the stroller as we were late and I had to run – what a sight!
3. Cooked pasta, put spoons in bowls, cut apple and unwrapped lollipops.
4. Opened the back door and encouraged them to go outside – they didn’t want to – even after I told them rain would make them grow strong!
5. Stood in front of fridge and cupboard for five minutes so the boys couldn’t raid it for more lollies.

See I haven’t been completely useless!

And I will TOTALLY tell the Husband I’ve spent all day chasing after kids, tidying up and that the mess was made five minutes before he walked in the door.

Did you have a lazy Friday? Are you capable of doing nothing and not feel guilty?

Finally a blog just for FYBF!!!

Hola Grace, you’re a fabulous host!

  1. So what I needed to read at this moment – something light hearted. Thanks for putting a smile on my face Em xx

  2. I’m still on the couch. The kitchen is still a mess from last night BUT I have managed to sort out my meal plan for next fortnight and drink 4 cups of coffee! Huzzah!

I’ll wait until 17:50 and do the “husband hustle” so it looks like I’ve been busy all damn day! 😉

  3. Oh Em, thanks for this! Some days it’s totally in your best interest to just be lazy isn’t it? I think this sounds like the perfect plan xx
PS that bottom photo is toooo gorgeous! 🙂

  4. I’m certainly capable of doing no housework and not feeling guilty. You could spend a whole day picking up things and cleaning to have it undone behind you, or you could do a supersonic 10 minute clean at the end of the day (or week, if you are like me). I choose the latter.

  5. I’m really good at being lazy. Want lessons? Look me up 😉 Unfortunately, I’m not good at being lazy without guilt! Hmmm… hold off on those lessons I think. Must say though – it is much easier to be lazy when the kids get older. All in good time Em 😉 LOL xo

    • Ha ha – you are wise – any other advice gratefully received! As for guilt, I have spent too much time on that, I still have some but most of the time I try to tell the ‘guilt voice’ to NAFF OFF! Em xx

  6. Lol good one Ems, quite a change from deciding what to wear for a night at the pub on a Friday! Yip brought Biancas lunch today and I am thinking of a takeaway for dinner, don’t do it very often but I am thinking I like the idea of fug all Friday 🙂

  7. I’m alone in the office at work so yes I am having a lazy Friday.

  8. That’s bloody gold!!! I loved the photo bomb!

  9. I love this idea – definitely going to try it!! Thanks for the great tip!!

  10. Yep I like to take things a bit easier on Friday. I try to finish most of my work for clients earlier in the week and yes, I prep a lot of my blog posts on a Friday – it’s a nice way to finish off the week! Thankfully my kids are old enough they don’t interfere too much with my plans of slackness!

  11. I do this, but due to working its Fug All Tuesday. However I finish work in 4 weeks and I plan to make the most of the few Fridays there will be between finishing and PJ#2’s arrival to do Fug all. Especially as Fridays are also Punky’s daycare day! The thought of a Friday off from everything has me so excited. I am seeing a pedicure, and possibly even a massage in my future!

    • Please please take care of yourself Ky, without the guilt. I wish I was kinda to myself when No.2 came along – you deserve it. Never say no to ANY help, indulge, you are a great mumma, wife and work! I’m VERY excited for you – just a bummer you’ll be BF-ing in winter, been there, hated that. Em xx

  12. I love it! I’m going to start making Friday a day of relaxation with no plans.

  13. Love it. You had me smiling, especially the idea of a self-feeder for kids. I too left the house a mess today and just chose to enjoy the kids & life in general! I blogged about it today. Keep up your Fug All Friday, it’s good to have a day of low expectations and relaxation.

  14. For a lazy Friday, you’ve done a whole lot actually!! Haha. Enjoy the rest of your weekend 🙂

  15. too funny! Today, i dropped the boy at daycare and then went shopping at ikea – guess you could say i did nothing today…

  16. That’s a grand idea – fug all friday – i love it. by the looks of that pic i don’t think your son liked you photo bombing in his sleep hehe. And congrats to you – three bums before 8 deserves the frick’n Victoria Cross. kimx

  17. I’m certainly capable of doing nothing without feeling guilty, but the trouble comes The Morning After! When I get up on Saturday and realise that there is now twice as much tidying to be done cos I let the kids run riot while I did fug all! But still, it was probably going to get that messy anyway. It’s probably still worth the day off. I love that photo of your junior neck-snapper 🙂

  18. I sort of had a fug all Friday today – ended up staying home with Delilah who was unwell (I tried to get to work and got her to preschool but she got upset when I was leaving and ended up snotting and coughing all over the place – I sort of had to take her home after that!) I even managed to have a nap – a win for fug all Friday!

  19. I usually don’t cook dinner in Friday, or it is at least something easy if I do. It is amazing how enjoyable the whole day is knowing you don’t have to worry about feeding the masses!

  20. I tend to do that on the weekend – well, the weekends are for hubs & I to have a weekend, so the kids fend more for themselves when their stupid activities aren’t sucking the freedom out of it. I am a fan of taking a break now and then…though if you made pasta instead of 2 minute noodles, you’re working too hard…

  21. Good one Em. I love it! You do the best selfies!

  22. Awesome post! Very funny! I’m going to have to start Fug All Fridays at my place!

  23. That sounds like a fabulous friday, I need to stay trying it out!

  24. I love the idea of this!
I never cook dinner on a Friday. I call it “Come as you are Friday” so everyone just helps themselves to what they want – well I do cook for the 4 year old but all she wants is boiled eggs – bless her!

  25. You mean to say the world doesnt fall apart if us parents do fug all? How can i make myself feel important now and how can i convince Mrs Under that I’ve had a more stressful day than she has? Oh well fug it I’m with you!

  26. I am SOO doing this next Friday!!
Love the line about the rain hahahaha thanks for the giggles!

  27. I WANT A FUG ALL FRIDAY! Thank you for the inspiration! (That’s something else you can add to the list of things you did on Friday – inspired everyone who read this blog post! Not lazy at all!)

  28. Funnily enough, I have a FUG All Friday pretty much every week! Although, I don’t get to photo bomb while my boys are asleep because the little rug rats don’t sleep during the day anymore! Waaaah!

  29. Love it Em. Sounds like my kind of Friday. Shame I actually have to be at work most Fridays – can I get away with fug all there?

  30. This is pure gold!!! I love it. Can we have dug all Friday and dug all Sunday??? I must admit, I hate Fridays and I can’t remember the last one where I actually gave the kids a decent dinner. Nutella sandwiches aren’t that bad surely???

  31. Ps. HOW the hell did get get to level 100 on CCS??? Give me some tips please (before I waste my life on this damn annoying addictive game) xx

  32. This approach should be mandatory for all mothers… forcing us all to be slack for at least one day a week and NOT to take anything too seriously!

  33. I was like “Fug All Friday”? Hell yes, I can do that! Then I realised that your version of fug all is pretty much every day the Twin Tornado are home from Kindy for me. You are doing too much. More fug, less all. 😉

  34. By the way, you have been nominated for a “Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award” by me 🙂 I love reading your posts, they always make me laugh! http://debsinspirationaljourney.wordpress.com/2013/05/27/a-little-bit-of-fun/ check it out xx

  35. Friday’s are funny enough crazy busy here. Lazy weekend for me… two days worth!!!

    • See I can’t really do lazy weekend as thought of Monday clean up annoys me so I usually try and keep on top of stuff, tis easier with husband around to share the load, and change all the nappies!
