Have a laugh on me

We're not all in the same boat, some of us struggle to even get in the boat!

A Tale of Two Sickies

Being sick ain’t the best of times.

In fact it’s the worst of times, especially the clean up.

I know you’ll forgive me for this very non-amusing post :(.

But after having sick kids for three weeks, and then catching the hurling bug this weekend – I have nothing left to give.

I told you I haven't been feeling myself!

I told you I haven’t been feeling myself!

I've just been a little - well - spaced out!

I’ve just been a little – well – spaced out!

Gastro hit our shores recently and I have always remained immune, until recently…

I was TOO cocky and posted this IG pic after how I was ready for sick kids - little did I know I would be sharing a spew bowl with my boy just 2 hours later :(

I was TOO cocky and stupidly posted this IG pic stating I was prepared for whatever the night would bring. Sadly two hours later the husband was holding this exact bowl and my boy and I were taking turns “talking” to it 😦 .

Looking a little worse for the wear - but how about my marshmallow dressing gown - HAWT or WHAT?

The day after – looking a little worse for the wear – but how about my marshmallow dressing gown – HAWT or WHAT?

The aftermath - NOICE!

The clean up – NOICE!

It just wouldn’t be a post from me without some non-bullet points:

1. The stomach cramps I had for about four hours felt like 3-5cm contraction pains or those HORRIBLE after-birth pains when the uterus is contracting. Remember them?

Men ask your wives to demonstrate the excruciating pain I’m talking about – maybe via a Chinese burn – go on Matt @ Dad Down Under and Kev @ the illiterate infant – I know you can handle it!

2. Having a husband who will clean-up spew, hold a bowl for you to hurl in and take over all household duties the next day – IS THE BEST.

3. It’s much more ‘fun’ being sick when you’re hungover, in fact often you don’t even remember doing it (not that I know from experience mum, people have just told me ;)).

Have I totally grossed you out? Do you remember those after-birth pains? Who cleans up your hurly burly?

A crappy IBOT post that I’m linking with Jess @ Essentially Jess

I'm a mum to three, write from home and I rarely cook, craft or clean but admire those who do. I try to live by the mantra that there's no point in worrying about something that might not happen! Be warned this is not a fluffy, sweet mummy blog, rather a place where you can cringe, laugh and be shocked at my brutally honest take on my life.

  1. Oh gosh Em that sounds just awful. Love the photos though! Hope you are feeling as right as rain now

  2. I hope you guys are much better now! What’s a Chinese burn???

    Ai @ Sakura Haruka

  3. oh gawd you poor thing!! hope it has well and truly left your house now! for GOOD would be nice! x

  4. Oh bejeebus, that pile of washing would make anyone relapse! You poor bugger, hope it’s passed through not to return. (I’m not going to write any more as I am the WORST vomit patient ever – well after my Mr 13) xxx

  5. Oh no! You poor things. Mr husband here had a bout on Friday night. Not pretty. For now the rest of us have escaped. Not nice at all!

  6. Jesus, I had forgotten all about those after-birth pains – they bloody hurt! Your poor thing, hope you’re feeling a bit perkier now, and your husband is a total saint for looking after you – my husband has a vomiting phobia (seeing someone else vomit makes him spew as well, which is bloody useless!) so tends to keep far away. I do get some sympathetic looks from him though… *rolls eyes*

  7. Oh God, after-birth pains! I have been steadfastly trying to ignore the little tidbit of info I got the other day that they get worse with every child. At least with your latest experience you’ve had a refresher to be feeling my pain vividly in a couple weeks time!

Hope you’re feeling better now though, there is nothing worse than gastro in my opinion!

  8. Hope you are feeling better Em! And yep I remember those pains after birth – way worse than the birth for me!

  9. You are so right about the hangover one – at least you earnt that one, and if you cant remember those last 4 drinks that put you over the edge…oh it was 6 or maybe 7…. all the better. And my Mum, obviously I just learnt that from Em!

  10. We were like this the other week. Nightmare.
    And the smell… Ugh.
Love your pics, you funny chook!

  11. Your laundry looked like mine two weeks ago! That bug is nasty. My hubby is usually pretty good as he has an iron gut an is rarely effected, so he has no choice but to take on the household duties!

At least with a hangover it was a choice. You know when you have had too much to drink and it is a choice to keep on DRINKING, even when you know you are gonna hurl because of it. Gastro creeps up on you, and catches you unawares! That bit is not fair!

Hope you have a bug free household soon! 🙂 x

  12. Oh yuck. I hate gastro! I’ve only had it a couple of times lately. Last time was when the four of us were living with my mum, brother and sister-in-law in a temporary situation. Relations were definitely strained. I hope you are all feeling tip-top soon. xx

  13. Oh you poor darling!! That’s too long to deal with sickies isn’t it? Thank goodness for your hub Em xx

  14. Poor you!! Don’t remind me of the pains of labour… my last were 13 years ago but memories do not fade. Twins were by section – quite civilised. Hope you get better immediately.

  15. Today I sent a child home with the chicken pox……..I am now expecting an epidemic of illness in my class. Just waiting for it to hit! Hope you are feeling better.

  16. Gastro is the WORST. Hope you’re all over it now xxx

PS laughing myself silly over the weird photos!

  17. Oh Em – been there and done that many times and my laundry has looked like that many times!! The last time we had hurly burly in this house – it was me!! Twas a while ago now but my gawd – I was up all night throwing up. I think it was food poisoning! Not nice. I’m a panicked chucker. Can’t get my breath between chucks and panic. Thought you could handle the gories haha 😉 Nice piccies of you too – gave me some great LOL’s !! 😉 Min xo

    • I started hurling after seeing my son hurl, I was already feeling VERY ill so it just topped it off 😦 Fingers crossed you stay healthy for a long time now Min – Have a happy week 🙂 x

  18. Oh you poor thing – however I love the wine next to the spew bowl. Keeping your fluids up is a must lol x

  19. Oh yuck Emily. You poor buggers! We had a similar thing a few weeks back. It’s just so draining trying to help the little ones when you’re feeling like death on legs yourself. Hope everyone is on the mend!

  20. A is on sick duty here whenever it happens because he knows if I go onto sick duty he will have two lots to clean up – it’s just not worth it for him !!!
Hope you are all feeling heaps better by now !

  21. hope you guys are all better
and thanks for the reminder i had totally filed away those after birth pains and now they are back in my mind lol- deb xx

  22. I totally understand that being sick is no fun at all. You are so lucky you are mostly immune to it all, I have managed to cop everything my son brings home (shit house having a pathetic immune system), so we have been sick since he started pre-school this year. Yep 6 freakin’ months of crapiness!
I am very thankful though that the vomiting and other stuff has been minimal. I happen to be a sympathy vomiter, so am lucky hubby is not 🙂
    Becc @ Take Charge Now

    • Oh Becc that must be so frustrating for you 😦 my hubby never gets sick – touch wood, considering I’ve got two in care and one at school I’m reasonably healthy. Back to health now – and as naughty as ever!!

  23. Oh, I feel for you, Em! I really do!
After the boys’ 1st birthday, we were hit with Gastro big time…nothing like a bit of warm vomit going down my top, into my bra…I’ll stop right there!
Hope you guys are over it now!

  24. I hope you are all feeling better. Gastro is the worst and the cleaning up afterwards sucks. Its the sickness that gets shared and passed through the family like a bullet train.

  25. My husband is utterly useless around vomit. He just starts gagging himself so even if I’m sick too, clean up is all mine. Hope you all recovered 100% xx
