I have no idea why I choose the most time-consuming cake to make for my first born! I painted the white horses, tied ribbons around them, and used tweezers to put every single cachous on. And don’t even get me started on the royal icing – but I did it all by myself – kinda proud of it I must say.

Next was my daughter's 2nd birthday cake :)

My mum always made AMAZING birthday cakes for us kids and I want to try to continue that tradition on – even if it kills me!!!

You can do anything you put your mind to I reckon!

I'm a mum to three, write from home and I rarely cook, craft or clean but admire those who do. I try to live by the mantra that there's no point in worrying about something that might not happen! Be warned this is not a fluffy, sweet mummy blog, rather a place where you can cringe, laugh and be shocked at my brutally honest take on my life.

  1. Oh. My. God! OMG, Emily!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you serious? You made these cakes? I must bow down to you. You are amazing. Talk about going all out. My daughter must never see your princess cake. Never! My mum always went all out with cakes for our birthdays, so I wanted to do the same. I need more practice. Never fear though, in two weeks time I will make the Snow White cake to rule all Snow White cakes. (Off now to google Snow White cake :/)

  2. They are amazing! Amazing I tell you!

  3. You are the birthday cake Queen Em. My little girl sadly got a woolworths special this year. Will make it up to her next year πŸ™‚

  4. Fantastic cakes! Well done Em! My favourite is the Carousel!

  5. All your cakes are amazing!!!! I’ve made all the birthday cakes for my girl so far too.. they may not look the best, but all made with love πŸ™‚

  6. wow ! how clever are you. The dinosaur cake is my fav! x

  7. Oh, you so get the Mum of the Decade Award! Those cakes are amazing! I’m a little bit jealous! I always outsource our birthday cakes! Love the look on your little Princess’ face as the cake is approaching. Bless x

    • I kind of feel as though I owe it to them Grace – silly I know – but I also LOVE doing it – I’m sure once they’re older they will get a kick out of being able to pick a cake and then I will just make it – somehow!

  8. Holy effing crap, those cakes are awesome! They look like something out of a magazine, the ones I alwyas look at in disdain and think, pfft, as if a REAL PERSON could just whip that up in their kitchen… – and you did! My kids usually just get the $5 Woolies mudcake with maybe a bit of coloured icing and sprinkles chucked on the top to zhuzz it up a bit.

    • I think those Woolies ones are all that is needed until they get bigger, but then again I had super amazeballs ones as a kid so maybe that’s where I get it from – The Australian Women’s Weekly cake book has A LOT to answer for xx

  9. You’re amazing! Sorry for no WW this week. I just had too much on my plate. Will be back on board next week.

  10. Awesome work Em!! These are fantastic – love the princess cake!! What a rock star mum you are! πŸ™‚

  11. Wowsers Em!!! Can I hire you in October???

  12. I used to love flicking through the WW cake book to pick my bday cake each year. Family tradition in our house!

  13. They sure look so good – I have done a few cakes over the years, and embarrassed to say that the years go on I am more relaxed {Slack} about doing cakes!!!!
One time Hubby and I made a 3D Duck cake for our second boys 2nd Birthday, and it fell over during the night….millions of tooth picks later and it stood up tall and proud once again πŸ™‚
    Love the Princess Cake.

    • Ha ha that’s funny – thank goodness for toothpicks! I hope to get better with age in regards to cakes, I will let the kids pick and I will do it, I’m so useless at everything else cooking I have to show them you can do anything you put your mind to! xx

  14. You have a super fun talent Em. Awesome cakes .

  15. No talent Trish, just the belief that we can achieve anything we put our mind to – well – if there are blow by blow instructions πŸ™‚ xx

  16. I love making birthday cakes – i’ve made a hawaiian (god how do you spell that) one with lolly bananas and palm trees, an I dream of Jeannie bottle which sent the kids awol cos of all the food colouring, and … i can’t remember the rest … but yours are fab. I love your daughter’s face with the princess cake, and your son’s for the dinosaur – so cute x

  17. I think you’re doing a damn fine job of those birthday cakes. Certainly puts my efforts to shame.

  18. Your cakes are AMAZING! You’re so talented. Your kids are so blessed to have such a wonderful mummy. πŸ™‚

  19. You are a cake goddess! Your kids are so lucky and I’m green with envy booohooo. I go crazy over kiddie parties but ALWAYS take the easy way out when it comes to cakes, Order. I look for a cake design to fit the party theme and send it to my favorite baker in town LOL

  20. Em, these cakes are awesome, and that carousel is an absolute cracker!!! I’ve tried baking a few birthday cakes, but I’m so hopeless, I outsource now πŸ™‚
Hope everyone’s feeling a bit better now xx

  21. I didn’t make a first birthday cake for my daughter. My mum did and I paid for my friend to make one for the party. My husband made the 2nd birthday cake. There is too much stress. I once made a toilet cake for my 25th birthday… now that turned out to be a crap cake….

  22. WOW – I was in awe over your button, but this cake making and decorating takes the cake! I am in complete awe.

  23. My mum did the same for us and I do the same for my kids. Wonderful tradition. Your cakes are amazing!!

  24. Just when I think that’s it, she’s peaked with awesomeness, you blow me away again!
I make all of my kiddy cakes as well and I try my little heart out.
Nothing makes a kids party like a bit of wonky cake. X

  25. Woops. Not that your cakes are wonky… I was talking about mine. Yours rock. That carousel is gorge!

    • Classic ROBO – don’t you hate it when you think you’ve said something offensive but you totally haven’t and then when you point it out it makes it more obvious (not that I was EVER offended – cos I know that’s how you ROLL baby) xxx Em x

  26. My mum always did special cakes as well and I like the whole personalised thing based on the child’s interests at the time. Those are some special cakes you’ve made.

  27. Do I detect a masterchef hiding there somewhere ? πŸ˜‰
Love the cakes Em, brilliant work xxx

  28. You clever thing!!!! I love a themed birthday cake. My favourite is the merry go round. x

  29. I am trying to make birthday cake for my boys birthday, but failed! πŸ˜€ this is great job!
